Lake Havasu City
Lake Havasu City,
Arizona is home to the famous London Bridge. Established in 1963, Lake
Havasu real estate has grown by leaps and bounds from a once small,
dusty town who's only claim to fame was a bridge in the middle of the
desert to a now thriving tourist destination offering an amazing
outdoor wonderland of water fun on the lake and desert fun surrounding.
How Lake Havasu Came to Be
Lake
Havasu owes its origins to the business savvy and foresight of chainsaw
magnate Robert McCulloch. Mr. McCulloch discovered this stretch of
desert in 1963, while flying overhead in search of a place to test his
new outboard motors for boats and saw something that nobody else had
seen before...pure real estate profit potential. Even though there was
no major highway coming into or out of the area, McCulloch decided that
he could make something of the land and purchased 26 square miles of
desert that eventually became Lake Havasu City real estate.
McCulloch's
search for something unique to spark interest for investors and future
residents of this desert area lead him to England and, eventually, the
London Bridge in 1968. Brick by brick over a three year period, the
bridge was dismantled and rebuilt along the former Pittsburgh Point to
connect Lake Havasu City with the peninsula, now known as "the island".
Originally
a winter haven for retired people who didn't like the cold weather the
rest of the country had to offer, Lake Havasu became a tourist
destination when people realized that over 300 days of sunshine meant
alot of time to play outside. In the most recent years, many people
have turned their summer homes in Lake Havasu real estate into their
permanent homes, causing a surge in permanent residential population.
Lake Havasu Education
Lake Havasu's educational system is provided primarily by the public Lake Havasu Unified School District .
There are six elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school
and one special, smaller school called the Round Table Program that
offers students an alternative to the regular public high school.
Additionally, there are two charter schools and two private schools
available to residents of Lake Havasu real estate.
Lake Havasu Economy
Construction, tourism
and the service industry are the driving factors behind Lake Havasu's
economy. The biggest private employers in the area are the London
Bridge Resort, Mission Industries, Nautical Inn, Sterilite Corporation
and Walmart. The largest public employers are Havasu Regional Medical
Center, Lake Havasu City, Lake Havasu School District and Mohave
